Social Security – Before And After Bush’s Plan

I try to stay away from the political end of things here, but I’ve been told my entire life that my generation will be the first to spend our lives paying into social security but we won’t see a dime back from it.

The link above goes to a simple calculator that shows how your benefits will change under Bush’s proposed plan.

My results:

Promised Annual Soc Security Benefit Now: $18,993

Bush’s Plan:
– Traditional Soc Security: $6,451
– Amount from Private Account: $6,551
– Total under Bush Privatization plan: $13,002

Difference (Annual cut): $5,991 (32%)

Personally I place no faith in the stability of anything in life, let alone government administered investment/retirement programs, regardless of which party is in power.
