Adium X

Freeware is one of the best things about the Internet. Companies that charge for their software are (usually) the only ones that can afford to advertise directly to you, my fellow consumer.

With the rise of the computer geek came hoards of developers who thought “Hey, I can do this better then the guys who are charging for it!” And, more often then not, they’re right.

Adium appears to be the Mac OS X equivalent of Trillian, a multiple protocol IM client. Put simply, it’s one program that allows you to work with, and I quote, “AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!, Rendezvous, Yahoo! Japan, Gadu-Gadu, Jabber, Napster, Lotus Sametime via the Meanwhile plugin, and Novell GroupWise.”

UPDATE: Our resident graphic designer at work says she might switch to Adium full time, and that she really likes the built in spellchecker and tabbed chat windows.
