Bars of East Lansing

Like any college town East Lansing has an affinity for bars. During the school year, on any day of the week, lines form that go out the door and down the street. Drive down Grand River Ave some time and see how many college kids are waiting. Just TRY and count them. I dare you.

Back to the point. A few minutes ago I was getting ready to order lunch from El Azteco (one of the best mexican restaurants I’ve ever eaten at) and Google turned up www.barsofeastlansing.com

I don’t know whether to be impressed or ashamed for my town.

I personally enjoy the Peanut Barrel, and agree with this writer that the patio is much better to sit in due to the lack of collected smoke and people-watching.
There is another bar that Krissy and I went to twice… It’s geared toward an older crowd and I found it very peaceful and full of wonderful warmth. The old wood-paneled walls maybe the cause of this feeling; I’m not sure. Jay, what is your vote for a nice place to visit for a lager or what-have-you in East Lansing (although I know you rarely stop in at a bar, and like me generally save such celebration for special occasions)?

Hmmm… I’d probably say Moriarty’s, which technically isn’t in EL. It’s on Michigan Ave further towards downtown Lansing. It’s a nice quiet, dimly lit place and is very laid back.
