As the world changes, a lot of our old “gee won’t it be nice” nuclear family-era impressions of what our lives will be like change, and they change quickly.
Unfortunately not everyone seems to realize that the retirement your grandfather may have had will not be the same one you have, and regardless of the economic circumstances it doesn’t have to be. This isn’t a social security debate, just the realization that thousands of aging baby boomers are reaching the point where they don’t want to retire but they still have the option available to them.
There may come a day when I can retire, but speaking personally I can safely say I have a problem not working. At my parents’ request I went without a job for three months while going to MSU and even with my classes I was going nuts.
