I’m a one-trick pen spinner. It’s a simple finger roll that moves the pen up one side of the hand and down the other. I started doing it in elementary school and over the years it became a habit, then a telltale “man I’m bored” signal.
Thankfully none of my teachers ever seemed to catch on.
In more recent years, I’ve noticed the trick sucks in the barely-conscious eyes of many a coworker during early morning meetings. It’s actually kind of funny, trying to pay attention to someone, spinning the pen, and suddenly realizing three or four sets of eyes are locked on to your hand and their owners have most likely tuned the conversation out completely.
