Sometimes I Hate the Internet

Shit like this makes me sick.

I’d love to find this guy and give him a large scar similar to the mental ones he inflicted on his children.

Stealth Windows Updates Confirmed

September 13th, 2007 No comments

This is pretty big news in the tech world if it all turns out to be true, and based on the article it sure looks like there’s no denying it.

I know I’ll be checking a machine or two at work tomorrow…

R.I.P. Mr. Wizard

June 12th, 2007 No comments

Up until now I never really thought about it, but Mr. Wizard totally helped turn me into the geek I am today.

Don Herbert, a.k.a. Mr Wizard passed away today at the age of 89 after a long battle with cancer.
So right about now I’d guess he’s teaching Jesus how to blow stuff up with common household objects, sort of like he is here with David Letterman in 1982.

Send in the Clowns

February 21st, 2007 2 comments

Two circus clowns have been shot dead during a performance in the eastern Colombian city of Cucuta, police say. – BBC News

Most unintentionally funny line from the story:

“Local reports say the audience of about 20 people, mostly children, thought the shooting was part of the show before realizing both men had been killed.”

Sad, but clowny.

Also sad, clowny isn’t actually a word.

Oh Please

February 16th, 2007 1 comment

According to this story in the LSJ a local businessman and former parade chairman wants to change the name of Michigan Avenue to “The Avenue of Michigan.”

My thoughts:

1. Come on. This is exactly the kind of fluff that is supposed to make people feel better about having a terrible state economy but doesn’t actually accomplish anything.

2. If you’re going to bother to change the name wouldn’t you want to use something… different? If you rename it “The Avenue of Michigan” I’d be willing to bet that 95% of the local population will keep referring to it as Michigan Avenue because it’s easier and makes more sense.

3. The main reason for this idea according to the article is he “wants to put a spotlight on one of Lansing’s busiest streets.” I guess having Lansing’s only family museum, two theatres, the civic center, and oh yeah the CAPITOL BUILDING directly at the end of the view isn’t enough of a spotlight.

I can’t decide if this is just an ultimately fruitless idea or another example of the LSJ really reaching for news topics.
